Can I come? This is where I want to go into retirement. I go every spring and I'm in love with the region. The beaches are beautiful, have a great dining and entertainment and shopping is wonderful. I would prefer to Florida .....

I spent some time on vacation and even if it was a pleasant place to be on vacation, I would not recommend it for retirement, because it is very crowded and noisy. Now is a great destination for spring break and there is an influx of students low in February, beverages, etc. will pause from time to time, but not for retirement. Tip: Hilton Head retirement.
The negatives are:
Bike Month!
Entire month of May is a hotbed of motorcycles.They are so strong, and many people stopped by this month, its going then.We less congested bit.You Wilmington may consider NC.Beautiful port city, about 50 miles from Myrtle Beach.Beaches not so big city but with some life.

Virginia Beach is a coastal city retreat well. Tends to be a little cheaper than most "places" because it is the military component. And it tends to attract fewer hurricanes on the coast of Carolina. I lived for 3 years and my parents go there to retire.

Unless there are college kids on vacation, Myrtle Beach is very quiet. If not, how to play golf or go to flea markets are bored to death. As I always say you get what you pay for.
